When you think of a professional violinist, at first you may picture someone in an orchestra, perhaps wearing a black gown, or a tuxedo with a cumberbund and bowtie, classically trained as they play their four-stringed instrument. While there are plenty of pros out there performing in orchestras wearing formal clothing, there’s also pro gigging and session violinists — like Jessy Greene, who has worked as a rock and roll touring violinist with the Foo Fighters and P!nk. When Greene takes the stage, she wears whatever she wants as she plays her Dahlia 5-string violin.

Greene’s story and rise to the professional ranks is as unique as the genres of music she plays.
A classically trained violinist from the age of 4, Greene found her interests changing as she went through adolescence. By the time she was 18 she was ready to reconnect with her violin in a new way, rooted in experimentation and nonconformity. In college, she found herself playing in an art-punk rock band and started touring after graduating. Her professional career grew from there.

“Stadiums are just really powerful as far as how much energy is coming at you,” she said, reflecting on a rock and roll performance with the Foo Fighters. “I look at the video from Wembley Stadium, and I see myself playing, and I’m like ‘how did I do that?’”

“If you love your craft, you do it regardless of how much money you make. And if you do that, and you keep doing it, and you keep persevering, good things happen.”

In addition to playing with the Foo Fighters and P!nk, Greene has collaborated with Post Malone, Dessa, Atmosphere, RZA and other acclaimed acts. Beyond her collaborations, classic training as a violinist, and playing rock and roll, Greene’s music has made its way into film and episodes of TV shows such as “Bones” and “Pretty Little Liars.”

Greene loves to improvise while performing and she also records sound healing music rooted in ambient meditation, featuring high-vibrational melodies.
